                         CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

                  The 8th International Conference on
Autonomous Infrastructure, Management and Security (AIMS 2014)

             June 30 - July 3, 2014, Brno, Czech Republic

                http://www.aims-conference.org/2014/

**********************************************************************

The International Conference on Autonomous Infrastructure, Management
and Security (AIMS 2014) is a single-track event integrating regular
conference paper sessions, courses and labs, keynotes on both
educational and scientific research topics, and a Ph.D. student
workshop into a highly interactive event. Especially, AIMS focuses on
early research done by PhD students and young researchers in network
and service management, and security. The participants find here a
dedicated place for getting constructive feedback by senior
scientists and they benefit from tutorials on educational aspects of a
research activity (e.g. this year "Where to publish?"). By taking part
in a dedicated workshop, the PhD students are invited at an early
stage to present and motivate their work as well as their research
plans. Finally, by being involved in practical hands-on sessions, PhD
students and young researchers will get an up-to-date knowledge
combined with basic skills on emerging technologies. This way, AIMS
acts as a complementary piece in the set of international conferences
in the network and service management community.

AIMS 2014 is the eighth edition of a conference series on management
and security aspects of distributed and autonomous systems. It follows
the already established tradition of an unusually vivid and
interactive conference series. This year, AIMS 2014 focuses on
Monitoring and Securing Virtualized Networks and Services. This theme
is addressed in the technical program with papers related to
monitoring, security, and management methodologies in the application
areas of wired and wireless networks, Internet of Things, Cloud
infrastructures, Network Functions Virtualization and Software Defined
Networking.

* Courses and Labs

AIMS 2014 features three hands-on lab sessions spread across its
four-day program. They provide participants with the opportunity to
gain first hand experience with several state-of-the-art network and
service management technologies and tools. Each lab session starts
with a brief theoretical tutorial-style introduction and is followed
by a hands-on part, allowing participants to experiment with the tools
through a set of practical exercises. The first lab session introduces
Fast Network Simulation Setup (FNSS), a toolchain that allows
experimenters to automatically generate complex network scenarios and
export them to a range of network simulators (e.g., ns-2, ns-3,
Mininet). The second lab session deals with setting up OpenFlow
experiments on large-scale network test beds, using the iMinds Virtual
Wall test bed as an example. Participants are introduced to the
OpenFlow protocol, instructed on how to set up experiments on the
Virtual Wall, and may finally deploy their own OpenFlow-enabled
network on the Virtual Wall. Finally, the third lab session presents a
framework for network attack simulations called Cybernetic Proving
Ground. It is a cloud based framework that allows users to instantiate
and run miscellaneous security and forensic scenarios. Furthermore, it
facilitates an establishment of isolated virtual environments that
researchers can use to pursue controlled analysis of the attacks.

* Keynote, Conference, and Ph.D. Workshop

AIMS 2014 will feature a keynote by Martin Rehak who is principal
engineer with Cisco Systems and lecturer at Czech Technical
University. He will talk about "Modern Security Analytics: Finding a
Needle in the Hay Blower", where he will discuss how a combination of
machine learning, "big data analytics", game theory and distributed
computing is necessary to face the current security threats. Moreover,
the three technical sessions will present the latest results in
emerging network and service infrastructures, security management, and
monitoring methods for Quality of Service and security. These three
sessions cover in total nine papers, which were selected after a
thorough reviewing process out of a total of 29 submissions. The
conference program is complemented by four additional technical
sessions from the AIMS Ph.D. workshop covering a total of 13 Ph.D.
papers on the topics of network virtualization, security management,
SDN and content delivery, and monitoring and information sharing.
These papers were selected out of a total of 27 submissions.
Finally, AIMS 2014 will feature a Ph.D. poster session, where
promising new ideas are presented.

* Venue

AIMS 2014 will be held at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech
Republic. The venue is located in the city center of Brno and easily
